This year while the grade eights get ready for graduation we are going to be watching six episodes of Frontier House.  Today we watched the first episode and it was introducing the show and the families.  Here is a summary of what the series Frontier House is about. 

Episode 1

The challenge of the Frontier House is to see if three modern day families can survive life as the pioneers did in 1883.  The families consist of a wealthy family from Las Angeles; the Clunes.  A family from Tennessee; the Glenns and a family from Massachusetts; the Brooks.  These families will have to go through all the hardships the pioneers had to go through in 1880.  They will have to take a two day journey to their settlements and have to live as though they were back in 1883.  The first episode was introducing and then they started on their way to their settlements.  I think this series will be very good to watch.

Episode 2

Today we watched the second episode of Frontier House.  This episode was a lot about the problems the Clune family faced.  Some of their problems were that they were running out of food and that the girls had little warm clothing to wear after a big snow storm came which also made everyone have  trouble growing their plants.  My prediction on who will do the best at the end of the show is the Brooks because they are the most efficient with their work.  I think the family that will do the worst is the Clunes because already in the second episode they are having the most problems with food and getting along.  So far this series is very good and teaches a lot about how the people lived in 1883 and taught me that we have had a lot of changes since then and made me more grateful for the things I have.

Episode 3

Today we watched the third episode of Frontier House.  This episode was mainly about Nate Brooks’ wedding.  Him and his dad; Rudy, finished their cabin for the big wedding.  But before the wedding one person from each family had to go to the store after five weeks of living off what they’ve been given on the first day.  After they talked about the shopping they went to talk about the wedding and they all had a big feast and they said goodbye to Rudy.  I think the show will take a turn now that Nate has a wife because it seems that the families with the wives have more problems adjusting to their new lives.

Episode 4

Today in class we watched the fourth episode of Frontier House.  This was the most basic episode yet because they showed more about different things that could happen in 1883 and they didn’t focus on anything in particular.  But the families all had to build a fence because there were cattle coming through their land.  I still think the Brooks are most likely to make it to the end with little problems.

Episode 5

The families are two weeks from the end of their life on the Frontier.  This episode was about a school house being opened for the kids to attend.  A school teacher came to talk to the Glenn and Lune family about cost and a building where she could do her work for the next five weeks.  They decided on a barn about a miles walk from their homes.  With two weeks left everybody has learned the reason why they have come and are anxious to get back home.

Episode 6

This was the final episode of Frontier House.  The winner as my entire class expected was the Brooks family.  They would have been the family that would have made it through the winter because they had proper food stocked up and the right amount of wood.  If you would like to visit the website go Here to check it out!
